random musings

Wally now has friends at Panera in Arlington Heights. And thinks Facebook is a huge time suck. (Good for those recovering from broken collarbone.)

Duh

The Boston Globe reported today that it has been rainy and not that sunny this month.

Good column by Bob Ryan today on Dice-K:

Panera stock is up 10%. Wally should have bought that instead of Orbitz.

A good use for Twitter????

Wally (the official one) is now on Twitter:

I guess they have cell coverage behind the Green Monster.

For those of you who saw the hilarious ESPN commercial a few years ago that starred Wally as a teleprompter operator, you will wonder how Wally types into a cell phone with those big paws. Perhaps he has a Green Monster-specific phone.

Nude Cycling

Wally thought he'd pass along this article that his aunt and cousin forwarded to him, although he too has a broken collarbone and is off the bike and thus does not have to decide whether to bike in the buff:

Welcome to London / tea recommendations

Now that Wally has moved back to the Boston area (much to the delight of a certain quilter who shall remain nameless), he's wondering what exactly is going on with the weather here. What's with all of the rain? Seems like every day it rains. Global warming? Bad luck? Is Boston the new Seattle?

It does, however, make excellent tea-drinking weather. Here are two recommendations from Wally, both available at Harney & Sons (www.harneyandsons) in Millerton, New York:
  • Earl Grey Supreme - his benefactor's favorite tea of all time. Excellent tips. An excellent afternoon tea (or after dinner, if you are caffeine-insensitive).
  • Eight at the Fort - "June 20-27, 1997, marked a special time in world history. President Bill Clinton of the United States and seven other world dignitaries met at The Fort in Denver for a world peace meeting. We were quite honored to be asked to create a special blend of tea to be served to the world leaders at their summit. Imagine the busy luminaries pausing just long enough to sip this special blend of eight teas. This is one of the most historic blends we have created." This gets Wally going in the AM after a night game.
  • Bonus recommendation: Queen Catherine, which Wally has nicknamed Queen Caffeine. Wally's Aunt CHG likes this one too.

Wally recommends that you visit Harney & Sons' tea room this summer - have lunch and do some tastings. If you like tea you won't be disappointed.

Red Sox rotation - see ya Dice K

Good analysis of the options the Sox have for their starting rotation in today's Globe:

Wally's vote: Dice-K to the pen. Sorry, Daniel Bard. Or find someone else to go to Pawtucket.
